Hurricane Season Is Here For Florida Clients And So Is The Sales Tax Holiday
Former Florida Governor Rick Scott successfully fought for hurricane supply Sales Tax Holidays during his tenure and his successor, Governor Ron DeSantis, is following in his footsteps. His fiscal year 2019–2020 budget proposal includes a weeklong disaster-preparedness sales tax holiday that would save Florida families millions of dollars. The Florida Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved a bill last week to hold a sales tax holiday on hurricane supplies from May 31 through June 6, 2019.
Hoping to encourage Floridians to better prepare for the hurricane season, the legislature is exempting disaster relief and hurricane supplies from sales tax – below is a list of eligible items residents might need during and after a storm.
What’s new this year? Impact-resistant windows sold in units of 20 or fewer and purchased by the owner of residential real property where the windows will be installed are now considered eligible for the temporary sales tax exemption, as are impact-resistant doors sold in units of 10 or fewer and purchased by the owner of residential real property where the doors will be installed.
